Praia Grande is at the mouth of the River Arade opposite Portimao. There is a wide,long beach, with several beach bars open in season. It is particularly good for children, as it is within the breakwaters at the mouth of the river, and the waves are a bit gentler than elsewhere. The sand here is very soft and fine. |

Around the corner from the beach, following the river, is Ferragudo castle. If you walk along the shore of the river, passing fishermen on the way, you will come to Ferragudo village, where there are several restaurants and bars serving the freshest fish it is possible to buy! |
